Leroy Williams, age 91, of Coleman, died Monday, June 15, 2020 at the Coleman County Medical Center.
The family will host a visitation from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 17, at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel, 400 W. Pecan Street, in Coleman. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, June 18, at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with David Wallace, officiating and Rev. David Medley, pastor at First United Methodist Church, assisting. Interment will follow at the Burkett Cemetery. Services are entrusted to Stevens Funeral Home in Coleman.
He was born Delmar Leroy Williams on October 1, 1928 in Brown County to Dee Williams and Eda Cross Williams. Leroy was baptized in the Pecan Bayou at Burkett and attended the Burkett Church of Christ. Leroy graduated from Burkett High School in 1946. He entered the United States Marine Corp to serve his country but was discharged early due to the death of his mother. He married Billie Faye McKinney on January 6, 1950 in Coleman. They had two children, Mark and Gayle, who were his pride and joy. Leroy served on the board of directors for the Federal Land Bank of Coleman, the Coleman County Telephone Co-Op, the Bangs School Board, and the Coleman County Farm Service Agency. Leroy enjoyed hunting, fishing, and waterskiing. He always said, “country life is the best life.” Most of all, he loved his family and spending as much time with them as possible.
Leroy is preceded in death by his parents, Dee and Eda Williams.
He is survived by his wife, Billie McKinney Williams of Coleman; his children, Mark Williams of Burkett, Gayle Brown and husband Clifford of Troy; his grandchildren, Kim Williams, Megan Cannon, Corey Brown; his great-grandchildren, Beau Cannon, Kate Cannon, Sam Cannon; and his step-sister, Jean Sneed of College Station.
The family suggests memorials in memory of Leroy to the Burkett Cemetery Association, 1001 County Road 178, Burkett, Texas 76828.
Pallbearers will be Johnny Meador, Ken Hunter, Henry Dodson, Matt Henderson, Anthony Strawn, and Mike Edington. Honorary pallbearers will be Pat Debusk, Collier Watson, Mike Barr, Ronnie Barr, David Sneed, Matt Cannon, Corey Brown, and Zach Edington.
