Adelita Castanuela, age 92, of Cleburne, and former long-time Coleman resident, died Monday, September 17, 2018. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 21, 2018, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 303 E. Elm Street, Coleman with Father Laurent Mvondo officiating. Burial will follow in the Melvin Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home, Coleman.
Adelita was born May 2, 1926 in Fredericksburg, Texas, a daughter of Carlos Flores and Reynalda Pruneda Flores. She grew up in Melvin where she attended school. She was married for over twenty five years to Rodolfo Castanuela and they had two daughters. She lived in Dimmitt where she worked for a doctor, helping to deliver babies. After moving to Coleman in 1974, she worked as a nurses’ aide at Holiday Hill Nursing Home. She moved to Cleburne a few years ago to live with her granddaughter. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Guadalupanas. She lived a long, full life and will be greatly missed by her family.
She is survived by one daughter, Teresa Cabrera of Houston; eight grandchildren, Gina Jones, whom she raised, and her husband Doug of Cleburne, Raymond Cabrera of Houston, Penny Price and husband Kenny of Houston, Shelly Flores of Houston, D’Lise Burkett and husband David of Leander, Margo Clay and husband Seth of Jayton, Rene Griffin and husband David of Leander, Desiree Stamper and Tucker Pledger of Early; numerous great and great-great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter, Ernestine Stamper, five brothers and three sisters.
There will be a visitation with the family from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 20. The Rosary will begin at 7:00 p.m. in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel, 400 W. Pecan Street, Coleman, Texas.
