Alice Evelyn Wells, age 85, of Coleman, passed away Sunday, June 15, 2014 at the Coleman County Medical Center. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, June 19, 2014 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jeff Dean, officiating. Interment will follow at the Trickham Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home. Visitation for family and friends will be 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 18 at Stevens Funeral Home, 400 W. Pecan Street, in Coleman.
She was born Alice Evelyn Stearns on June 7, 1929 in Trickham, a daughter of Roberts Stearns and Florence Grant Stearns. Alice married Ray Wells on July 3, 1948. She worked several years at Jin Wright Sewing Factory, Stempels Manufacturing, and the school cafeteria, retiring from the Coleman School District. Alice loved to work in her flower beds and garden all summer. She would spend all winter wishing for summer to come back. Alice canned and preserved massive amounts of vegetables, pickles, jams and jellies. She especially loved family gatherings at holidays, reunions, and birthday celebrations. She will be deeply missed.
Alice is preceded in death by her husband, Ray Wells; her daughter, Barbara Kirkpatrick; son in law, Charles Kirkpatrick; sister, Frances Fleming; and brother, R.C. Stearns.
She is survived by two sons, Ervin Wells and wife Brenda of Coleman and Gregory Wells and wife Emma of Katy; one sister, Verna Bolton of Early; brother in law, Charlie Ray Fleming of the Cleveland Community; sister in law, Elizabeth Stearns of Cross Plains; six grandchildren; two great-grandsons; and numerous nieces and nephews.
