Alvie D. Stoup, age 92, of Coleman, died Friday, October 11, 2013 at Baylor Scott and White Hospital in Temple. Graveside funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 14 at the Coleman Cemetery Pavilion with Rev. Reid Johnson officiating. Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
Alvie D. Stoup was born December 4, 1920 in Pilot Point, Denton County, Texas, a son of Edward Darwin Stoup and Nova Lou Scoggin Stoup. He moved with his family to Coleman in 1922 where he grew up and graduated from Coleman High School. He served in the United States Army in Company A as an engineer and was honorably discharged in 1949.
He is survived by one brother, William E. Stoup of Coleman; two sisters, Peggy Jacobi of Ft. Worth and Margaret Wilson of Clyde; numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews, great-great nieces and great-great nephews, and great-great-great nieces and great-great-great nephews, including one special niece and care-giver, Janice Merrill and husband Johnny of Coleman.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Hugh, Carl, Earl and Fred Stoup; four sisters, Ruby Watters, Bessie Adian, Pearl Kile and Dorothy Chastain.
