Anita Smith, 97, of Coleman died Monday, July 14, 2014 at her residence. Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at Community Baptist Church, 218 Lackland Street, Coleman, with Bro. Don Harmes officiating. Burial will be in the Coleman City Cemetery, under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
Mrs. Smith was one of 10 children born to Alonzo Foreman and Mary Knight Foreman on August 17, 1916 in Coleman. She grew up in Coleman and graduated from Coleman High School. She married Paul Brown Smith on February 9, 1935 in Gouldbusk and the celebrated 75 years of marriage.
While living on the farm in Gouldbusk, Mrs. Smith became active in the Home Demonstration Club. She was also a unique pastor's wife, standing beside Bro. Paul's side at every visitation and with him at every funeral. In 1979, Anita became the director of the Community Baptist Church Day Care Center; and, in 1983, Anita and Bro. Paul were named Coleman County Citizens of the Year. This was the first time that a couple had been honored. Anita was a founding member of Community Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Anne Smith of Abilene, Pat Robinson of Abilene; two grandchildren, Mike Robinson and wife Suzanne, of Novice, Misty Mach of Abilene; six great grandchildren, Amber Gailey and husband, Brent, Monty Robinson and wife, Brittany, Lacy Robinson, Dustin Mach; granddaughter-in-law, Cindy Robinson; several nieces and nephews and her dedicated caregivers, Debra Blount and Mary Jo Brixey.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bro. Paul Smith on December 5, 2010; a grandson, Mark Robinson in 2000; five brothers and four sisters.
Family visitation will be Tuesday, July 15, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home, 400 West Pecan Street, Coleman.
