Aristeo B. Ponce

Aristeo B. Ponce, 62, of Coleman died Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at his residence. Funeral Mass will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 6, 2015 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 303 East College Avenue, Coleman, with Father Romanus Akamike officiating. Burial will follow in the Coleman City Cemetery, under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Aristeo B. Ponce was born September 3, 1952 in Anteojos, San Luis Potosi, Mexico, the son of Gumaro Ponce and Paula Bueno Ponce. Ponce, as everyone knew him, grew up in Anteojos and moved to the United States when he was 16 years old. On April 28, 1978, he married Tommie Vasquez in Coleman. He worked for Ted Taylor for 22 years, before starting his own fencing business. Ponce was known for helping anyone and was a hard worker. He was a member of the Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife, Tommie Ponce of Coleman; five children, Enrique Ponce of Coleman, Nancy Ponce of Coleman, Rosemary Luz of Fort Worth, Gloria Luz of Fort Worth, Ramona Luz of Duncanville; his mother, Paula Ponce of Anteojos, SLP, Mexico; three brothers, Hilario Ponce of Coleman, Sixto Ponce of Ranger, Alejo Ponce of Coleman; six sisters, Ignacia Morales of Matamoras, Mexico, Nemecia Arrevalo of Matamoras, Mexico, Blanca Ponce of Matamoras, Mexico, Augustine Solis of Longview, Beninia Ponce of Wimona, Cipriana Ponce of Tampico, Mexico; 10 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces nephews and cousins.

Ponce was preceded in death by his father, Gumaro Ponce.

A Rosary Service will be 7:00 p.m. Thursday, February 5, 2015 at Stevens Funeral Home, 400 West Pecan Street, Coleman. Visitation will follow the Rosary Service.
