Beatriz "Betty" Martinez

Beatriz “Betty” Martinez, 94, of Abilene, died Friday, December 21, 2018 in Abilene.  There will be a visitation from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, December 23, 2018 at Stevens Funeral Home.  Rosary service will be 7:00 p.m. Sunday, December 23, 2018 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel, 400 West Pecan Street, Coleman.  Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 24, 2018 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 303 East College Avenue, Coleman.  Interment will be in the Coleman City Cemetery.  Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

She was born Beatriz Galindo on October 26, 1924 in Coleman to Felix Galindo and Luz De La Rosa Galindo.  She grew up in Coleman, where she attended school.  On October 1, 1948, she married Catarino Martinez in Coleman.  They made their home in Fort Worth.  After the death of her husband, Mrs. Martinez moved to Abilene in 1987.  She was a loving woman of great faith and impeccable hair.  She enjoyed reading and attended Holy Family Church in Abilene.

Survivors include one son, Carlos Martinez of Fort Worth; three daughters, Alice Hagins of Mesquite, Velia Dalton of Fort Worth, Patricia Martinez of Weatherford; two sisters, Otila Gonzales of Abilene, Sarah Cortez of Haskell; 10 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.  She is also survived by several loving nieces and nephews.

She preceded in death by her husband, Catarino Martinez on May 16, 1979; two daughters, Mary Galindo, Hope Womack; one son, Jose Louis Martinez; one sister, Consuela “Connie” Martinez; two brothers, William “Willie” Galindo, Frank Rosales; a step-daughter, Delores “Lolita” Jaramillo and three brothers-in-law, Joe Cortez, John Gonzales and George Martinez.
