Fina Reid, a beloved member of the Coleman community, passed away peacefully on December 31, 2024, at the age of 84. Born Betty Ophenia Palmer on December 11, 1940, in Hopkins County, she received her early education in Dangerfield before graduating from high school in Grand Prairie. Her roots were firmly planted in Texas, and throughout her life, Fina cultivated deep connections with those around her.
Fina's career as a bookkeeper for several automotive dealerships in Grand Prairie laid the foundation for her meticulous nature and attention to detail. In 2007, she and her late husband, Jim, decided to embark on a new journey together as they co-owned Coleman Gift and Craft Supply and Computer Service. This venture allowed Fina to pursue her passion for crafts while serving her community. After Jim's passing in 2015, she continued their legacy, offering Coleman art and craft supplies that inspired countless residents to explore their creativity. Fina dedicated herself to her work up until her retirement, after which she cherished the time spent with her family.
Fina was known for her warm smile and generous spirit. She found joy in making crafts, often spending hours crocheting homemade gifts that she lovingly shared with friends and family. Her passion for arts and crafts was only rivaled by her love for her family, especially her children, Jim Lohn Reid, IV, and his wife, Joanne, of Coleman, Larry DeWayne Reid and his wife, Diana, of Arlington, Terry Lynn Reid and his wife, Donna, of Grand Prairie and her sister, Patricia Ann Young of Alvarado. Also surviving are her brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Wilbert Lee Reid, Loyal Ray Reid, Berthal Young; sister-in-law, Laura Reid; nine grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren and one that has yet to be born along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Fina cherished the moments spent with them, weaving together memories that will forever be held dear to their hearts.
Fina was preceded in death by her parents, Billie Lee Palmer and Florence Ala Cannon Palmer, who undoubtedly nurtured her kind heart and creative spirit. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Jim Lohn Reid, III; two sons, Bobby Lohn Reid, Billy Lee Reid, Sr.; one brother, J.D. Palmer; two grandchildren, Tamara Lynette Reid, Terry Lynn Reid, Jr. and her brother-in-law, Eldred Lonnie Reid. Though she has departed from this world, her legacy of love, creativity, and resilience remains etched in the hearts of those who knew her.
