Billie Cardinas

May 22, 1924 — July 20, 2015

Billie Cardinas, 91, went to be with our Lord Monday, July 20, 2015 after a stay at Hendrick Medical Center. Service will be held 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 22, in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Donald Williams officiating. Private interment will be in the Glen Cove Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home, 400 W. Pecan, Coleman, Texas.

Billie was born May 22, 1924 in Carter, Oklahoma to Horace and Stella Mae Wilhelm. The family later moved to Amarillo, Texas where Billie attended nursing school. While there she met Victor Cardinas while he was serving in the Army. They married January 1944 and made their home in Burkett on the Brown Ranch for a short time, later moving to the White Chapel area to begin a family. They finally moved to the farm to raise their five children and she resided there until moving to Clyde six years ago. Victor preceded her in death on October 3, 2001.

Billie worked hard on the turkey farm for years until they quit raising turkeys in the late seventies. Mom enjoyed her chickens, peacocks and guineas, as well as many hummingbirds made their stop there. She was a perfect example of a Proverbs woman, giving to her family and neighbors with her gift of cooking and a kind heart.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, sister and one granddaughter.

Survivors include her children Lynn and Vicki Cardinas of Coleman, Vickey and Harold Moore of Clyde, Ginger and Mike Hoover of Goldthwaite, Cindy and Cliff Bryan of Athens, Mindy and Kit Horne of Tuscola; nine grandchildren who loved her dearly and eight great grandchildren who will hear stories of a very special woman in our lives.

She is also survived by one nephew, Billy Webb of Austin and one great-niece Paige Vurpilla of Litchfield Park, Arizona.

We will miss our Nannie B and have been blessed with the gift of a loving mother and grandmother.

Memorials may be made to Hendrick Hospice, 1682 Hickory, Abilene, Texas 79601.
