Billie Jean Mitchell, age 81, of Novice and formerly of McCamey, died Wednesday, April 19, 2023, at Holiday Hill Nursing Home.

Family and friends are invited to a funeral service at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, April 22, 2023, at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel, 400 W. Pecan Street, in Coleman.  The family will host a visitation following the service at Stevens Funeral Home.  A private interment will be in the Atoka Cemetery.  Services are entrusted to Stevens Funeral Home.

She was born Billie Jean Parham on March 18, 1942, in Shreveport, Louisiana to Louie Blanton “Bill” Parham and Bevie “Punk” DePrang Parham.  Billie grew up in Rankin and Novice.  She graduated from Novice High School and then attended beauty school in Brownwood.  Billie worked at Owl Drug Store for a short time.  She married Douglas Carrol Mitchell on October 8, 1966, in Novice.  With this union, three sons were born, Duane, Snyder, and Michael.  Billie and Douglas moved to West Texas and settled in McCamey where they raised their children.  Billie and Douglas helped coach many little league baseball teams while their sons were little.   Douglas worked for Shell Oil Company while Billie was a homemaker.  After her sons were raised, Billie went to work for West Texas Utility as a staff associate.  She worked there for 25 years before retiring.   Billie enjoyed reading and crocheting, making many Afghan blankets for family and friends.  She loved her family and will be missed.

Billie is preceded in death by her parents, and one brother, Louie Snyder “Bubba” Parham.

She is survived by her husband, Douglas Carrol Mitchell of Novice; three sons, Duane Mitchell and wife Cindy of Big Lake, Snyder Mitchell and wife Vicki of Fort Stockton, and Michael Mitchell and wife Charlotte of Stephenville; four grandchildren, Rankin Mitchell and wife Amanda, Coleman Mitchell, Caleb Mitchell, and Colton Mitchell; and one great-granddaughter, Clara Jane Mitchell.

The family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions in memory of Billie Jean be made to Coleman Home Health and Hospice, 115 West Street, Coleman, Texas 76834.
