Funeral services for Billie Ruth Trammell Wells, 89, will be held in Coleman, Texas in the Stevens Funeral Home Chapel at 11 a. m. Wednesday, August 16, 2017, with Bro. Don Harmes, pastor of Community Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in the Coleman Cemetery.
Mrs. Wells was born March 21, 1928, in Coleman, Texas, to Jim and Ruby Trammell and passed away Friday, August 11, 2017, at Silver Spring Care Center in Abilene, Texas.
Having grown up in Coleman Billie graduated from Coleman High School. Following WWII Billie married the love of her life, Floyd Wells. The two moved to various locations where auto dealers coveted Floyd’s expert auto service talent: Seagraves, Levelland, Comanche, Abilene, Odessa, Coleman (where she worked at Overall Memorial Hospital for a time). They built their dream home in Coleman and resided there from 1981 to 1995 when they moved back to Abilene due to Floyd’s declining health. An excellent cook with a flair for writing, drawing, oil painting, and quilting, she received praise from a local newspaper validating her talent. Her illustrations can be found in a book authored by C. L. Sonnichsen: THE OUTLAW. Billie had a knack for holding listeners spellbound when she told stories, using her wit, wonderful sense of humor, and timing. She loved Jesus and practiced her beliefs by employing her computer to provide all her relatives and many of her friends with “The Bible Verse of the Day”, each one chosen to apply to circumstances of that day. It is still missed.
Survivors include sons Floyd, Jr. and wife Laura of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Jimmie Wayne of Abilene; and Danny of Abilene; a brother Donald Trammell and wife Sara of Lufkin. In-laws Dorita Wells Hottel with husband Nelson and H.N. (Sonny) Wells with wife Myrtle. Survivors include grandchildren and great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Billie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, five siblings and their spouses: Vonceal and Nellie Ruth Adkins Trammell; Pauline and Lee Roy Strickland; Peggy and Darrel Henson; Betty and J. D. Creek; J. L. and Mary Baker Trammell.
Pallbearers are: Scott Wells, Mathew Wells, Juliet Wells, Larry Beck, Ken Brixey and Nelson Hottel.
