Brooke Diane Matthews

June 8, 1981 — December 10, 2024

Coleman

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Brooke Diane Matthews, who departed this life on December 10, 2024, in Odessa, Texas. Born on June 8, 1981, in Brownwood, Texas, Brooke was a cherished soul whose vibrant personality brought joy to all who knew her.

Brooke was raised in Coleman, where she cultivated a lifelong passion for learning. She graduated from Coleman High School in 1999, demonstrating a deep commitment to her studies. Her educational journey continued at Texas State University, where she obtained a degree in biology and chemistry. After completing her education, Brooke dedicated her career to serving as an office manager in various industries, a role in which her organizational skills and warm demeanor shone brightly.

Brooke embodied positive energy and always lived life to the fullest. She would light up the room with that infectious smile and her vibrant laugh. You could always anticipate her bear hugs as she greeted you. Brooke was the definition of fun! She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, loved music, and sharing cheesy jokes. No one could tell jokes around the campfire quite like Brooke; even if the joke was not funny, her laughter and excitement about it was.

Although she never had children, she was loved by every child that met her, especially her nephew. The kids called her “Cookie” and they could persuade her to do anything from mule rides, to tubing, to sleepovers, and so many silly shenanigans making memories that will last a lifetime. Brooke was also an animal lover and the best dog mom. She was a compassionate caregiver to all her four-legged friends and loved to volunteer her time to take care of family and friends’ pets. Brooke’s personality was bigger than life and she will live on beyond this life as we know she is dancing with Jesus. She leaves behind an amazing legacy for her family and friends.

Brooke is survived by her loving parents, Billy and Becky Matthews of Lake Coleman; her sister, Barbi Matthews of San Antonio; and her nephew, Cole Balliet of San Antonio. Additionally, she leaves behind her beloved dog, Buck, along with many aunts and uncles: Eddie and Mary Jane Steffey, Joe and Jimmie Thornberg, Goldie White, Frankie Matthews, and Rose Mary Rollins.

She is preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents, Jim and Lorene Wilkins and Willie and Irene Matthews, as well as her aunt, Darlene Matthews.

The family will host a visitation from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, December 15, 2024, at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel. Family and friends are invited to a funeral service celebrating her life at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 16, 2024, at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the Coleman City Cemetery. Services are entrusted to Stevens Funeral Home, 400 W. Pecan Street, in Coleman.
