Carolyn Turner Steele

March 7, 1931 — October 2, 2013

Carolyn Turner Steele, age 82, of Coleman, died Wednesday October 2, 2013 at her residence. Funeral service will be held on Sunday, October 6, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Brad Slaten officiating. Burial will follow in the Voss Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.


She was born March 7, 1931 near Voss in Coleman County, Texas, a daughter of Fred A. Turner and Susanna Owen Turner. She grew up in the Voss community and graduated from Mozelle High School in 1948. She then attended and graduated from Texas State College For Women (now TWU). She taught 5th grade in Granbury for 28 years, retiring in 1991.


She married James Earl Steele in 1953 in Denton, Texas and he preceded her in death in 1997. She was a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church in Granbury where she was active in the United Methodist Women. After moving to Coleman in 2011, she joined the First United Methodist Church and the Retired Teachers.


She is survived by two children, Shanna Perkins and husband Tommy of Coleman, David Allen Steele and wife Carolyn of Mansfield; three grandchildren, Jennifer Martinez and husband Ricky, James Michael Steele and Daniel Bingham; one great-grandchild, Avery Martinez; one brother, Allen Turner and wife Nan of Voss; brother-in-law, Ron Steele of Ft. Worth; sister-in-law, Virginia Steele of Ft. Worth.


She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and an infant sister, Mabel Ellen Turner.


Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 5, from 5:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home, 400 W. Pecan Street, Coleman, Texas.
