Carroll Hinds, 86, of Coleman, died Saturday, April 4, 2015 at Holiday Hill Nursing Home. Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel, 400 West Pecan Street, Coleman, with Rev. Jody Rodriguez officiating, assisted by Rev. Loyd Hopper. Burial will be in the Coleman City Cemetery, under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
Carroll Hinds was born March 3, 1929 in Coleman to R.C. Hinds and Tempest Lula Peek Hinds. He grew up in Coleman and Coleman County, graduating from Centennial High School in 1946. He served in the National Guard. On October 24, 1948, he married Addie Hopper near Voss. He worked for Southern Pacific Pipeline in California and Arizona. After moving back to Texas, he worked for the United States Postal Service as a Rural Route Carrier. He was a past member of The Gideons International for 17 years, member of the American Numismatic Association, the Texas Numismatic Association and Immanuel Baptist Church in Talpa.
Survivors include his wife, Addie Hinds of Coleman; three sons, David Hinds and wife, Pam, Phillip Hinds and wife, Amy, Steve Hinds, all of Coleman; one daughter, Laura Dees and husband, Ral, of Denver City; one sister, Glenda Klassen of Coleman; 12 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Geneva Kilgore and a grandson, Lance Hinds.
Visitation with the family will be from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday, April 6, 2015 at Stevens Funeral Home.
