Charles Henry Bowen

Henry Bowen, age 79, of Coleman, died Monday, December 19, 2016, at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene. His service will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, December 22, at the Gouldbusk Cemetery Pavilion. Interment will follow in the Gouldbusk Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home in Coleman.

He was born Charles Henry Bowen on July 9, 1937 in Gouldbusk, Texas, a son of William Aaron Bowen and Annie Lee Lewallen Bowen. He grew up in Gouldbusk and attended school in Gouldbusk and Mozelle. On August 15, 1958, he married Patricia Ann Brackett in Durant, Oklahoma and they divorced in 1975. On May 25, 1976 he married Sandra Lee Kempton and they were married for 37 years before divorcing in 2013. Henry worked for the same company, Smith International Drilco, for 40 years, where he started in maintenance, became a machinist and eventually was the plant manager. While working for this company, he lived in Midland, Texas, Benghazi, Libya, Alice, Texas, and Vernal, Utah. Following his retirement in 1996, he returned to live in Coleman. He was a Baptist.

Survivors include his children, Anna Louise LeFevre and husband Jed of Vernal, Utah, Charles Douglas Bowen and wife Linda of Gilbert, Arizona and Melissa Jo Jenkins of Ashland, Illinois; two step-children, Michelle Lee Arnold of Longview, Texas and Tiphanie Anne Lale of Mesquite, Texas; two sisters, Susie Marshall of Fort Worth and Mary Ann Graham and husband David of Coleman; one brother, Robert Lynn Bowen and wife Joyce of Coleman; a sister-in-law, Jean Bowen of Coleman; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Red and Janie Pyburn of Leaday.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Stella Marie Ellis in 2014; a granddaughter Angie Capps; a brother, John Will Bowen; a sister, Ida Jo Pyburn; a brother-in-law, Billy Marshall.
