Charles Wayne Wright, 78, of Coleman, died Monday, September 23, 2019 at his residence. There will be a visitation from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 25, 2019 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel, 400 West Pecan Street, Coleman. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 26, 2019 at Concho Baptist Church, 1700 South Concho Street, Coleman, with Pastor Aaron Mitchell officiating, assisted by Bro. Bill Campbell. A private family inurnment at the Coleman City Cemetery will be at a later date. Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
Charles Wayne Wright was born September 12, 1941 in Globe, Arizona to Charles Weldon Wright and Helen Pauline Thompson Wright. At a young age, Charles and his family moved to Kermit, where he grew up and attended school. On June 27, 1959, Charles married Barbara Janette Dunham in Kermit. Charles was self-employed, working as a Pipeline Contractor. Following his retirement, Charles and Barbara moved to Coleman in 1992.
Charles raised and trained cutting horses, loved trap shooting and travelled 48 of the 50 states. He was a member of the Coleman Rodeo Association, where he served as president in 2005 and was a member of Concho Baptist Church. Charles was the best Pawpaw ever to his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Sheryl Wright of Kermit; son-in-law, Kevin Landers of Coleman; eight grandchildren, Brandon and Tara Wright of Carlsbad, New Mexico, Bradley Wright and fiancée, Cara Feeney of New Braunfels, Kassie and Mason Wright of Odessa, Kristen and Garrett Flowers of Lipan, Taylor Armstrong of Coleman, Jason and Alicia Singleton of San Angelo, Dustin and Cassandra Henderson of San Angelo, Brian and Nikki Ditto of Wink and numerous great grandchildren.
Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Wright, a daughter, Misti Landers, a son, Michael Wright and a brother, Jerry Wright.
