Claudia Rutherford

February 28, 1920 — July 3, 2014

Claudia Rutherford, 94, of Santa Anna and former resident of Rockwood, died Thursday, July 3, 2014 at Brownwood Regional Medical Center. A celebration of Claudia's life will be 3:00 p.m. Saturday, July 5, 2014 at Rockwood Baptist Church with Graham Rutherford officiating, assisted by Rev. Jeff Dean and Rev. Leslie Davidson. Burial will follow in the Rockwood Cemetery, under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

She was born Claudia Evelyn McCreary on February 28, 1920 in Rockwood to Jake McCreary, Sr. and Gussie Box McCreary Wise. She grew up in Rockwood and graduated from Rockwood High School. She married Jim Rutherford on February 21, 1947 in Santa Anna. He preceded her in death in 1987. Mrs. Rutherford was a member of the Rockwood Quilters Club, the Gouldbusk 42 Club and the Bridge Club of Santa Anna. She was an avid basketball fan and a member of the Rockwood Baptist Church.

Survivors include four children, Larry Rutherford and wife, Linda, of Rockwood, Billie Gay Abernathy of Santa Anna; Jimmie Gail Davis and husband, Steve, of Coleman; Jennifer Rutherford of San Angelo; one brother-in-law, John Rutherford and wife, Joann, of Fort Worth; 15 grandchildren Randy Rutherford and wife, Lisa, Kevin Todd Rutherford and wife, Casi, Mark Rutherford and wife, Jennifer, Jetta Stokes and husband, Bryan, Taffy Gary and husband, Billy, Margot Binon, Megan Rutherford, Troy Abernathy and wife, Lisa, Tim Abernathy and fiancAC.e, Kristan, Tony Abernathy and wife, Katie, Amber Bouldin and husband, Monty, Cody Slate and wife, Candace, Haley Cook and husband Boone, Travis Slate, Julie Hafner; 20 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild and numerous nieces, nephews and special friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; step-father, Denby Wise; husband, Jim Rutherford; one son, Bob Rutherford in 2008; two brothers, Sealy McCreary, Jake McCreary; one sister, Billie Wise Eckles and a son-in-law, Jimmy Hafner.

Family visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, July 4, 2014 at Stevens Funeral Home, 400 West Pecan Street, Coleman.

The family request that memorials be made to the Rockwood Cemetery Association, Rockwood Baptist Church or the Rockwood Community Center.
