Corene Adams

September 4, 1930 — June 11, 2017

Billie Corene (Hoover) Adams, 86, of Coleman passed from this earth on Sunday, June 11, 2017, in Georgetown, Texas. Funeral services will be held at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 17. A graveside service will be held following at Burkett/Adams Cemetery in Burkett, Coleman County, Texas. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, June 16, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home, 400 West Pecan Street, Coleman, Texas.

Corene was born at home on September 4, 1930 in Brown County to Willie (Bill) Henry Hoover and Cora Bell (Ensor) Hoover. She was an only child but never without playmates, her pets. Her love of animals was forged at an early age and remained an important part of her entire life. Ask anyone who knew her and they will attest to this!!

She married the love of her life, Richard Gilder Adams, on December 22, 1950 in Burkett where they raised two daughters, Debbie and Timorah. They lived in Burkett until they moved to Coleman in 1972, where they both worked in the Coleman school system. Corene retired in 1996 after 31 years of service to the students and staff of Coleman Elementary Schools.

Corene was a member of First Baptist Church for 45 years and a member of the Lydia Sunday School Class. She was a loyal sender of cards to church members until her mind failed her. Thank you to those of you who have returned that thoughtfulness to her during these last few years.

Corene loved to work with her hands. She loved to sew and made most of her daughters’ clothes including prom dresses and twirling costumes. She was an avid quilter and maker of afghans. The family has been blessed to be the recipients of some beautiful examples of her work. She won numerous ribbons for her work at county fairs. She also loved her garden and yard which she was able to care for up until just a few years ago. She loved to travel and went on many trips with Bilbrey Tours out of Abilene and with the Silver Threads of First Baptist. She and Gilder also traveled somewhere almost every summer after school was out.

She is survived by her two daughters, Deborah Kay (Adams) Johnson and husband Ron of Burnet County, Timorah Lynn (Adams) Andrade and Steve Meadows of Novice, three grandchildren, Brandon Adams Johnson and wife Sarah of Leander, Erin Michelle (Johnson) Corley and husband Jason of Georgetown, Zachary Trevor Andrade and wife Jenn of Killeen. She is also survived by 6 great grandchildren, Kenley and Case Johnson, Hunter, Abigail and Everett Corley, and Zoey Andrade. She was preceded in death by her parents Bill and Cora and her husband Gilder in 1983.

The family would like to thank the Coleman Quilting Club, First Baptist Silver Threads and the 1948 graduating class of Burkett High School for all the memories. Corene loved you so much and shared those treasured memories through stories and photos with the family.

Lastly, the family would like to say thank you to the wonderful owners, staff and fellow housemates at Tiffin House in Georgetown. You made the move from Coleman so much easier for her and us. You loved and cared for her as if she were part of your own family. We can never express in words what you have meant to us and especially to Mom.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association and/or the Gary Sinise Foundation to honor veterans.

Online condolences may be left for the family at www.livingmemorials.com.

The funeral service for Billie Corene Adams will be officiated by Rev. Gary Boyd, former pastor of First Baptist Church in Coleman, with the eulogy given by her son-in-law, Ron Johnson. Music will be provided by Mark Romine and Lorrie Payne.
