C. R. Dalton, age 82, of Coleman, went to be with the Lord on Monday, August 6, 2018. Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, August 9, at the Community Baptist Church, 216 Lackland, Coleman, with Brother Don Harmes officiating. Burial will follow in the Leaday Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home, Coleman.
He was born June 18, 1936 in Coleman, the only child of Claude Raymond Dalton, Sr. and Mary Ann Conway Dalton. He grew up in Gouldbusk and Trickham and graduated from Mozelle High School in 1955. C. R. served his country for two years in the United States Army and received an Honorable Discharge. On January 20, 1963, he married Joyce Fenwick in Leaday. Following their marriage, they lived in Coleman until the time of his death. He was retired from the Corp of Engineers and had previously worked at 7-Up and Coca-Cola Bottling Factories.
Church was an important part of his life. C.R. was a member of Community Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon for 29 years. During that time, he served several years as the Chairman of the Deacons.
He loved Christmas and lavishly decorated his house and yard for all of the community to enjoy. Through the years he won several contests for the best decorated house in Coleman. He was also known to a lot of children as “Pappy.”
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Dalton of Coleman; two daughters, Tammy Blair of Lake Ivie and Becky Hatchett and husband Shawn of Lamesa; four grandchildren, Wesley Lowe and wife Sheri of Lake Ivie, Camden Lowe and wife Bailey of Lamesa, Brady Hatchett of Lamesa, Sheldon Lowe and wife Chelsea of Coahoma; nine great-grandchildren, Bostyn Hatchett, Stetson Lowe, Paige Lowe, Ky and Abbott Hatchett, Hunter Lowe, Sterling Lowe, Emily Lowe and Emma Lowe; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Kay and Kenneth Foote of Odessa.
Memorials may be made to the Community Baptist Church, 216 Lackland, Coleman, Texas 76834.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 8, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home, 400 W. Pecan Street, Coleman.
