C.W. "Pete" Golson, 85, of Rankin, passed away Thursday, August 6, 2015 in Rankin. Funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m. Sunday, August 9, in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel in Coleman with Rev. Elsa Ramirez officiating. Burial will follow in the Burkett Cemetery, under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home, 400 W. Pecan, Coleman, Texas.
Pete Golson was born on October 1, 1929 in Santa Anna, Texas, a son of James Wade Golson and Joanna Walker Golson. He grew up in Burkett and graduated from Burkett High School. Following high school, graduated from Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene with a Bachelor of Science Degree. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy.
On January 25, 1952 he married Kay Carlene Rose in Novice, Texas. Following their marriage, they lived in Illinois, Pensacola, Florida, Abilene, Lawn, Ballinger, Eunice, Louisiana and Haughton, Louisiana. In 1970 they moved to Rankin, Texas. Pete was a school teacher before going to work at Union Texas Petroleum, retiring from that company. Until his death, he was the oldest living member of the Rankin United Methodist Church. Pete was a person who helped everyone with everything. He was a willing Volunteer Fireman and assisted at the Food Bank.
He is survived by his wife, Kay Carlene Golson of Rankin; two sons, Murray Wade Golson and wife Angela of Rankin and Randal King Golson and wife Kim of Midland; sisters-in-law and brother-in law, Liz Golson of Coleman, Larry and Kathy Rose of Coleman and Barbara Golson Griffin of San Antonio; four grandchildren, Ronald Wade Golson and wife Amanda of McCamey, Julie Anna Richards and husband Waco of Midkiff, Marley Golson Cosgrove of Plano and Gabriel Golson of Midland; two great-grandchildren, Payton Wade Golson and Ryan Walker Golson; many nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, infant son, Gary Mac Golson, three brothers, James L. Golson, Joe C. Golson and wife, Hope, and Roy D. Golson, and one sister, Beth Golson Kleiber and her husband Bob.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 8, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home, Coleman.
