Dallas Van Etten, 95, of Coleman, died Saturday, February 2, 2019 at Coleman County Medical Center. A graveside memorial service with Military Honors will be 1:00 p.m., Friday, February 22, 2019 at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene, 7457 West Lake Road, Abilene. Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home, Coleman.
He was born Dallas Alfred Van Etten on May 28, 1923 in Wichita, Kansas to Moses Van Etten and Buelah Graham Van Etten. He grew up in Ovalo and graduated from Ovalo High School. After graduation, Mr. Van Etten served in the United States Navy from 1942 to 1945 on the USS Absecon. Following his honorable discharge from the Navy, Mr. Van Etten came back to Texas. He owned and operated Van Etten Electric in Abilene during the 1950’s and 1960’s and then moved his business to Anson in the 1970’s. He later moved to Kingsland in the late 1980’s. He moved to Coleman in 2000 from Port Lavaca. Mr. Van Etten was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and the Assembly of God Church.
Survivors include four children, Freddie Van Etten of Odessa, Dallas Van Etten of Montana, Jerrilyn Mary Barney of Tehachapi, California, Tommy Van Etten of Abilene; four grandchildren, four great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Norman Van Etten and one sister, Mary Yates.
