David Kurt McLaughlin

August 31, 1945 — February 16, 2018

David Kurt McLaughlin, 72, of Coleman died Friday, February 16, 2018 at Holiday Hill Nursing Home.  David was born August 31, 1945 in Bridgeport, Connecticut, where he grew up and attended school.  At the age of 17, he enlisted with the United States Navy and was stationed in Honolulu, Hawaii. While in Hawaii, David married Betty Ann Kay on March 20, 1965.

After being honorably discharged from the Navy, David and Betty moved to Tremonton, Utah.  He had several occupations, including a police officer, over the road truck driver and was a preacher.  David loved travelling all over and ministering to the people he met.  He enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing.  David and Betty moved to Coleman in 1999.  David was a member of the Baptist faith and attended Wings As Eagles Church.

Survivors include three children, Betty Kathyleen McLaughlin Hicks and husband, John, of Malad, Idaho, Patricia Lynn McLaughlin Amador and husband, Ruben, of Coleman, David Freeman McLaughlin and wife, Diamond, of Topeka, Kansas; 10 grandchildren, Michael David Hanson of Utah, Francis Jean Allen of Idaho, Jonathan Ruben Amador of Coleman, Jesse Angel Amador of Coleman, Joey Anthony Amador of Coleman, Josielyn Maria Amador of Coleman, Hanna Jo McLaughlin of Kansas, Gabriel McLaughlin of Kansas, Levi McLaughlin of Kansas, Haevyn McLaughlin of Kansas and extended Amador Family in Hico and Mexico.

David was preceded in death by his wife, Betty McLaughlin in 2005, his mother and step-father, Myrtle Estelle and Stanley Shimabukuro and his sister, Kathyleen McLaughlin.

David’s family is honoring his request to be cremated.  They will hold a private memorial service at a later date.
