David L. Wright, Sr.

David L. Wright, 98, of Novice, died Saturday, September 9, 2023 in Coleman.  The family will host a funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 12, 2023 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel, 400 West Pecan Street, in Coleman.  A private interment will be held at the Rough Creek Cemetery in Novice.

He was born David Lewis Wright on December 20, 1924 to William F. Wright and Cliffie Hood Wright in Mineral Wells.  The family moved to Fort Worth in 1933.  David graduated from Paschal High School in 1942.  David served three years in the United States Navy and was stationed in the Philippines when World War II ended.  David then attended and graduated from Texas Christian University in 1947.  A year later, he married Billie Jean Brooks at her home on October 2, 1948.  David worked for the Amoco Production Company for 35 years, living and working mostly in west Texas and eastern New Mexico.  After retiring from Amoco in 1984, David and Billie moved back to Coleman County, where he ranched raising Polled Hereford cattle.

David wanted it known that he was a son, a husband, a father, a grandfather, a great-grandfather, retired Naval Officer and a Christian.  He loved to stay busy working.

David is preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, Billie Wright.  He is survived by two sons, David L. Wright, Jr. and wife, Cathy, William L. Wright and wife, Dotsy; three grandchildren Brook Deacon and husband, Jon, Christopher L. Wright and wife, Kayla and David Charles Wright and wife, Mindi.  Also surviving are five great grandchildren, Rylie Deacon, Andrew Deacon, Zoe Wright, Charlee Marie Wright and Flynn Taylor Wright.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to Novice Methodist Church, P. O. Box 175, Novice, Texas 79538 or the Rough Creek Cemetery Association, c/o P. O. Box 2, Novice, Texas  79538.
