Dr. Charles Ross Gaines

October 25, 1926 — April 17, 2014

Dr. Charles R. "Pop" Gaines passed from this life, with his family by his side, on Thursday, April 17, 2014.

He was born October 25, 1926 in Coleman, Texas to Dr. James Foster and Evelyn Gaines and grew up in Coleman, Texas. He attended Tarleton State University and later graduated from Baylor Dental School before starting a dental practice with his brother, Dr. Jimmie Gaines, in 1949 in Midland, Texas. He generously served his patients in that practice until August of 2013. Lovingly by his side at his death, as in his life, was his wife of 65 years, Mrs. Lavera Johnson Gaines. Together they raised their family in Midland, Texas. He spent his life chasing outdoor adventures where you might find him hunting, fishing or golfing...and sometimes all of it in the same day! He taught many young people about his love for the outdoors including his own children and grandchildren. Amazingly, in June of last year, he played in his 51st consecutive San Angelo Country Club Men's Invitational Partnership. "Pop" joined his family on one last bird hunt in the fall of last year; the last one countless days he spent with his favorite people doing what he loved to do.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister. He will be missed by his family and his legacy of love will live on in his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held Saturday, April 19, 2014 at the Coleman City Cemetery Pavilion. Stevens Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
