Eddins Winfred "Ed" Ward

Eddins “Ed” Ward, 94, of Brownwood, died Monday, May 1, 2017 at Senior Care of Brownwood. Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 4, 2017 at First Baptist Church of Early, 103 Garmon, Early, with Bro. Eddie Ailshie officiating. Burial will be in the Coleman City Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home, Coleman.

He was born Eddins Winfred Ward on December 5, 1922 in Coleman to Malcolm Artemus and Josie Eva Ripley Ward. He grew up in Coleman, attending the Junction School where he was valedictorian of his class. Mr. Ward enlisted in the United States Navy in 1942 and was honorably discharged in 1946. On May 4, 1957, he married Margaret Grether in San Benito.

“Charlie Brown” and “Lucy”, as the affectionately called each other, lived in Brownsville, where all three of the children were born. Mr. Ward moved his family to Brownwood in 1968. They moved to Georgia in 1987 and moved back to Texas, settling in Brownwood two years later in 1989. While living in Coleman, Mr. Ward worked for First Coleman National Bank as a custodian. He later worked for First Baptist Church of Early as a custodian as well. He took pride in his work, was always kind to everyone he met and treated everybody equally. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Early.

Survivors include his three daughters and sons-in-law, Josie and J.W. Essary of Early, Jean and Winifred Campbell of Early, Lynda and Jim Addy of Franklin Georgia; six grandchildren, Tim Campbell and wife, Donna, Shauna Karnes and husband, Cliff, Jeremy Essary, Kevin Campbell and wife, Jamie, Dalton Shumake and wife, Misty, and adopted grandson, Wesley Baccus. Seven great grandchildren also survive.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Imogene Herriott; grandson, Christopher Roberts; nephew, Billy Mac Herriott and his wife, Margaret on January 28, 2017.

Visitation with the family will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at Stevens Funeral Home, 400 West Pecan Street, Coleman.

“Charlie Brown” is now with his “Lucy”, and they will be celebrating their 60th Wedding Anniversary in Heaven together.
