Edgar Allen Coates

Edgar Coates, Sr., 66, of Coleman, died Monday, May 12, 2014 at Coleman County Medical Center. Graveside service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 17, 2014 at the Coleman City Cemetery Pavilion, 1600 East 9th Street, Coleman, with Bro. Don Harmes officiating. Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Edgar Coates, Sr. was born April 17, 1948 in San Angelo to Rodney Nebraska Coates and Jessie Naomi Dillard Coates. He grew up and attended school in San Angelo. He was a racehorse jockey for many years and had moved to Coleman several years ago.

Survivors include three sons, Jimmy Ray Coates of Farmington, New Mexico, Michael Lynn Coates of Coleman, Edgar Allen Coates, Jr. of San Angelo; two sisters, Patricia Chandler of Carlsbad, Debbie Loflin of Carlsbad; two brothers, Franklin King of Dallas, Jesse King of Abilene; eight grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and the mother of his children, Dorothy Brazel of San Angelo.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Lydia Coates and Sue Miller.
