Edith Carnes, 81, of Coleman died Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at Holiday Hill Nursing Home. There will be a visitation on Friday, October 26, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 26, 2018 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Don Harmes officiating, assisted by Rev. John Stanislaw. Interment will be in the Coleman City Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home, 400 West Pecan Street, Coleman.
She was born Edith Mae Creek on April 14, 1937 in Runnels County to Roy Creek and Joe Della Stephenson Creek. She grew up in Leaday and attended school at Leaday. She graduated from Mozelle High School as Salutatorian of her class. On March 15, 1957, Edith married Joe Dean Carnes in Coleman. She worked for over 25 years as a Dental Assistant for Dr. Tommy White and for Dr. James “Butch” Anders. Edith enjoyed gardening and tending to her rose bushes. She loved making quilts for family and friends. She was a member of Leaday Baptist Church and attended First Baptist Church in Coleman.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Marsha and Bob Ray of Coleman; one brother, James Alton Creek of Hutto; one granddaughter, Ashley Pruet and husband, Jack, of Baird; one grandson, Mitchel Ray and wife, Kandi, of Albany; seven great-grandchildren, Ivie Smith of Coleman, Blane Vinson of Baird, Grant Vinson of Baird, Rayni Vinson of Baird, Brady Ray of Carlsbad, New Mexico, Kayson Ray of Fort Worth, Kaleigh Clevenger of Lubbock and one great-great grandchild, Shaylie Smith of Coleman.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
