Elaine McClure Black, 76, of Springtown, passed away on January 9, 2021 in Fort Worth. She was born November 18, 1944 in Coleman to Orin Wade ‘Butch’ McClure and Ruby Olene Bennett McClure. They remained in Coleman County until 1957 when a severe drought led them to Plainview, in search of better farming opportunities. Elaine attended Plainview junior high and high schools then married Joe Peters in 1961. They had two children, Mark and Michele, and operated a cotton gin until they moved to Arlington in 1968. They later lived in Linden and Watauga until the couple divorced in 1980. In 1998 Elaine married Ron Black of Grapevine. They moved to his home state of Iowa for 10 years before returning to Brownwood where Elaine found great joy in re-establishing many childhood relationships with family and friends. She and Ron attended her ancestors’ place of worship, First Baptist Church in Santa Anna, and she was active in the restoration and preservation of the Santa Anna cemetery.
Elaine's life was characterized by her faith in God and her love and devotion to her many friends and family. She loved being Grammie to her granddaughter and great grandchildren, had a great sense of humor and the best laugh. She loved cooking, baking, sewing, all kinds of crafts, gardening and even played the piano.
She was also our rock, a very strong and beautiful mother filled with life, feistiness and sass! She raised her children on tough love and she expected her grandchild & greats to be raised the same ~ with tough love. Respect and honor for your elders was of utmost importance to her. Her hardworking nature and personality are instilled in her family and everyone she met. She will always be remembered as being a loving wife, mother and grandmother and will be deeply missed by all.
Elaine is preceded in death by her parents, sister-in-law and one nephew. She is survived by her husband, Ron Black of Springtown, brothers Bennett McClure of Midland, Rick and wife, Cindy McClure of Malvern, AR, son Mark and wife, Karen Peters of Frisco, daughter Michele and husband, John Liptak of Highland Beach, Fl, granddaughter Baillie Peters of Denton, two great grandchildren, one niece, four nephews and several great nieces and nephews.
