Elsie Marie Velo, 90, of Coleman, passed away on Thursday, August 15, 2013 at Holiday Hill Nursing Home in Coleman. Graveside funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 18, 2013 at the Coleman Cemetery Pavilion with Rev. Kermit Sorrells officiating. Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
Elsie Marie Velo was born June 30, 1923 in Coleman County, the daughter of Henry and Beulah Wheeler Velo, and has lived here all her life. She attended school at Bowen Centennial and one year at the old Coleman High School. In 1940, she went to work as a waitress at the White Lily Cafe. She later worked at the Coleman Hotel Coffee Shop for Blackie Conger. She also worked at the Manhattan Cafe and Conger's Cafe. In 1987, she went to work at Munden's Discount Store. She retired in 1992, when Munden's closed.
Survivors include one son, Donald Velo of Bella Vista, Arkansas; two nieces, Sandra Humphries of Greenville, Angeline Randall of Chattanooga, Oklahoma; five nephews, Allen Velo of Boerne, Anton Velo of Belton, Andrew Velo of Hazel Green, Wisconsin, Michael Velo of Siloan Springs, Arkansas, Morris Ray Velo of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; one sister-in-law, Jewel Velo of Lawton, Oklahoma.
She was preceded in death by one sister and three brothers.
Family visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Saturday, August 17, 2013 at Stevens Funeral Home, 400 West Pecan Street, Coleman.
