Gaylan Fay Oxford Collett

Gaylan Fay Oxford Collett, who was born in Coleman, Tx on November 15, 1955 to her father, the late J.D. Gorman, Jr. and her mother, Darlene Gorman of Zapata, Tx, was granted her angel wings on July 1, 2013. Her final days were spent surrounded by family and friends that Gaylan had touched in some small way throughout her short, yet very memorable life.

Gaylan grew up in Zapata, Texas where she graduated from high school. Her first marriage was to Harold Russell "Rusty" Oxford. She was recently married to Mark Collett.


She had lived in Lytle, Texas for about 30 years after moving there from East Texas. She was a member of Gateway Baptist Church in San Antonio. Gaylan's family was the most important thing in her life. She was also a talented cake decorator and taught Wilton Decorating classes. She enjoyed arts and crafts, fishing, and arrowhead hunting. She was an accountant with C. H. Guenther and Son, Inc. in San Antonio.

Gaylan's life would seem too short to many, but those who were touched by her understood that the quality of existence far exceeds the quantity of time in which one lives. Her gentle laughter and smile, big heart, and love brought so much joy to her family. Gaylan gave us all such courage and hope and reminded us of the preciousness of life.

Gaylan is survived by her husband Mark Collett of Zapata, Tx, son Brandon Oxford of Three Rivers, Tx, daughter Sherry (Charles) Beasley of Jonesboro, Tx, step daughter Sheri Collett of Austin, Tx, step daughter Cyndi Collett Davis, of Nashville, TN, sister Joy (David) Oxford of Boerne, Tx, brother in law Robert Collett and girlfriend DeDe of Zapata, Tx, sister in law Sarah Marshall of Austin, Tx, 5 grandchildren, Abcde Beasley, Cutter Beasley, Payton Oxford, Hadley Oxford, and Ily Harper Davis, neices, Stephanie (Michael) Orawiec of Colorado Springs, CO, Lisa Timberlake of San Antonio, Tx, Taylor Oxford, Boerne, Tx, and nephew Michael Oxford of Boerne, Tx. Great Nieces and Nephews, Bre Ana, Bri Elle, Dylan, Casey, Mikey, Ressie, Noah. Uncles - Jerry (Catrina) Gayler, Floyd Jenkins, Aunt June Rogers (Max Samuels). Cousins - Keith, Sonja, Debbie, and Randy. Second cousins - Rocky, Cheryl, and Alan.

Preceeded in death by: Grandparents - Dugan and Opal Gorman, Cecil and Maudie Gayler, Father :J.D. Gorman Jr., Uncle and Aunt: Vernon and Martha Gayler, Great Nephew: Micheal "Monchito" Oxford.

Close friends include: Carole Dean, Tommie and Karen Cook, Joyce Doan, Donna Hendricks, Nikki Cone, Tammy, Kelley, Michelle, Lisa, Mellissa, Kathy, Sandra, Penny, and Janelle.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Saturday, July 6 at Stevens Funeral Home, 400 W. Pecan Street, Coleman, Texas. Her service will begin at 6:00 p.m. Saturday in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel, followed by a procession to Midway Cemetery in Goldsboro, Coleman County, Texas.
