Gilbert Ramon, 78 of Coleman, died Friday, February 2, 2018 at Coleman County Medical Center. Graveside service will be 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at Fort McKavett Cemetery in Schleicher County. Burial will be in the Fort McKavett Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
Gilbert D. Ramon, Sr. was born February 4, 1939 in Fort McKavett to Sylvester Ramon and Cliofitas Deanda Ramon. He grew up in Fort McKavett and attended school there. On July 10, 1960, he married Aurora Bermea in Menard. Gilbert and Aurora moved to Coleman in 1963.
Gilbert worked in construction, worked for the City of Coleman as dozer operator and was the ranch foreman for Herb McKee. Gilbert loved music and played many instruments. He loved woodworking, making all kinds of crafts. He never met a stranger and was willing to help anybody that needed help. He became a Coleman celebrity on Facebook with video clips that were recorded by his daughter. Gilbert’s greatest accomplishment was being the best grandfather to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Gilbert was a member of Club Victoria in Menard and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Coleman.
Survivors include his wife, Aurora Ramon of Coleman, two daughters, Annabelle Cole of Coleman, Elisa Wren and husband, Brian, of Cotton, Minnesota; one son, Gilbert Ramon, Jr. of Coleman; one sister, Lupita Rodriguez of London, Texas; 10 grandchildren, Brian Alan, Jr. and Jackie Wren of Kelsey, Minnesota, Elisa Crutcher and Lindsey Garrison of Coleman, Aireial and Brant Webb of Granby, Colorado, Stanley M. Cole, Jr. and Amanda Rushing of Ranger, Cynthia Ramon and Coleman Price of Palo Pinto, Jewels Harmes of Coleman, Christina and Dustin Vigil of Reno, Oklahoma, Sage Keeney of Coleman, Colton Keeney of Coleman; 12 great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters and five brothers.
There will be a Rosary service 7:00 p.m. Monday, February 5, 2018 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel, 400 West Pecan Street, Coleman.
There will be visitation from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at Fort McKavett Cemetery.
