Gilliam Thomas Byrom

July 9, 1927 — April 30, 2015

Graveside services for Gilliam T. Byrom will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 3, 2015 at the Valera Cemetery Pavilion with Baker Rudolph officiating. He died after a short illness. Gilliam was born July 9, 1927 at the family homeplace northeast of Voss. He parents were Lee R. Byrom and Janie Mauldin Byrom. Gilliam attended Voss School and graduated from Mozelle High School. He enlisted in the United States Navy and fought in World War II. Afterwards, he began his career as a banker. Gilliam had worked for the State of Texas as a bank examiner, worked at Coleman National Bank, was president of the Sabinal Bank for many years before returning to Coleman and working at Coleman County State Bank. After retirement, he worked as a banking consultant.

During this period of time, he also managed to excel in the world of art. He had one man art shows in Abilene, Los Angeles, California, Santa Fe, New Mexico, New York City, Nice, France and Mexico City. He later became an art broker. He was a man well traveled.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Ben Byrom and Henry Byrom; one sister, Virginia Norris and a nephew, Jimmy Norris, all of Coleman.

He leaves behind his niece, Janis Norris; great niece, Holly Norris and great nephew, Russell McHorse, all of Coleman; great nephew, Lee McHorse of Bakersfield, California, Cody and Cameron Norris, both of Coleman. He will be missed.

Visitation with the family will be at Stevens Funeral Home, 400 West Pecan Street, Coleman from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 2, 2015.
