Glenn Lee Hagler

Glenn Lee Hagler, age 92, of Coleman, died Thursday, November 8, 2018, at Holiday Hill Nursing Home.  Graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 9, 2018, at the Coleman City Cemetery Pavilion with Rev. Richard Hetzel officiating.  Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Glenn Lee Hagler was born in Coleman, Texas, April 22, 1927 to Fisher and Hattie Hagler. Glenn was the first of a large family for the Haglers, as he had four brothers and a sister. His paternal grandmother, Ella Mae (Grammer) Hagler was a very significant person in his life, as he spent much of his youth with her. Glenn attended Coleman schools and then served in the US Navy after graduating.

Glenn married Juanelle Guthrie in May of 1948.  Glenn and Juanelle loved Coleman and chose to remain in their beloved hometown and raise their two daughters, Sandra and Deborah. Coming from a farming family, Glenn's love for that lifestyle led him to stay involved with the cattle trade, even though  his primary career became insurance sales. He worked for Life of the Southwest for many years, and later became an independent agent. He also worked with his dear friend Duwayne Edington as the ticket writer for the sale days at Coleman Livestock Auction.

For more than forty years Glenn was very devoted to the Men's Downtown Sunday School Class, where he served many terms as President, Treasurer and other offices. That group of men remained dear to Glenn throughout his lifetime. After he was living at Holiday Hill and needed a wheelchair transport, the men continued to include him on special events as he loved to sing hymns with them. He considered these dear men part of his family. Glenn and Juanelle were lifelong members of the First Baptist Church of Coleman.

Glenn enjoyed his family, and they all remember him as always being positive and in a good mood. He spent many hours taking grandsons to the farm to feed cattle, fish and hunt. He could spend an entire evening just watching his granddaughters entertain him, which they loved to do with jokes, dance routines, cheerleading and acrobatics. This continued through the years with  his  grandchildren's children, as they began to have families of their own. Glenn insisted on his grandchildren calling him Glenn (he felt he was too young to be called Granddad) but loved to hear himself referred to as Great Glenn as the great grandbabies came along.

Glenn was preceded in death by his devoted wife Juanelle in 2009, after 61 years of marriage. He was also preceded by both his parents and his five siblings, Jack, Jimmy, Jerry and David Hagler, and Nelda Hagler Hunter. His mother-in law and father-in-law, Jim and Gladys Guthrie  were like parents to  him, and preceded him in death as well.

Glenn is survived by his daughter Sandra Winetroub and husband Jerry of the Austin area, daughter Deborah Hagler and Billy Avants of Ponca City, Oklahoma, along with his grandchildren : Rusty Wilson, Brett Furr, Cliff and Melissa Wilson and their children Ava, Trenton and Caleb, Stephanie and Jason Barr and their children Jenna and Brady, Kelly and Jason Black and their daughters Ally and Katie, Stacy and Bart Gunkel and their daughters Sarni and Lizzie, Jay and Sidni Winetroub and their sons Cord and Brooks. He is also survived by brothers-in-law Larry Guthrie, Bill Guthrie and Hank Hunter as well as sisters-in-law Sallie Morris, June Jenkins, Jody Guthrie, Joyce Hagler and Mary Hagler, and a Coleman resident, first cousin Kay and husband Eric Joffrion,  along with many nieces and nephews.

Glenn was blessed with a very dear friend and neighbor, Mary Garza, who has been an angel and true blessing for the entire family. The Hagler family is forever indebted to Mary and to the entire staff at Holiday Hill. Thank you all for loving our father and making him feel so special and loved.
