Gussie (Whitaker) Smith

Gussie M. Smith passed from this life on May 4, 2021 at the Coleman County Medical Center.  The family will host a visitation on Friday, May 7, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home.  The service will begin at 3:00 p.m. at the Coleman City Cemetery Pavilion with Rev. Jeff Dean officiating.  Interment will follow in the Coleman City Cemetery.   Services are entrusted to Stevens Funeral Home.

She was born Gussie Whitaker on October 25, 1930 to James G. Whitaker and Effie Ellis Whitaker in Georgetown, Georgia.  Gussie worked for Stempel Manufacturing for several years before retiring.   She loved to knit, crochet, and grow a flower garden.  She was a member of Concho Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth (Mickey) Smith; son Ronnie Aycox; sisters, Frances Locke, Pauline Morrison and an infant son.

She is survived by brother, George G. Whitaker and wife Martha of Coleman; sister, Mary Lisenby of Dothan, Alabama and several nieces and nephews.  She will be greatly missed.

Memorials are suggested in memory of Gussie to the Concho Baptist Church, 1700 S. Concho Street, Coleman, Texas 76834.
