Henri Etta Gilbreath, age 88, of Santa Anna, died Thursday, September 20, 2018, at Brownwood Regional Medical Center. Service will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 23, at the Santa Anna Cemetery Pavilion with Sam Wilson officiating. Interment will follow in the Santa Anna Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home, Coleman.
She was born Henri Etta Spencer on September 3, 1930, in Holmes County, Mississippi, a daughter of William E. Spencer and Addie M. Gregson Spencer. She grew up in the Lexington and Tolarville areas of Mississippi where she also attended school. She attended college and later lived and worked in Biloxi, Mississippi, where she met her future husband, Floyd W. Gilbreath, who was stationed at Kessler Air Force Base. They married on October 17, 1951 in Biloxi and lived in Gulfport until 1959, moving to Santa Anna that year. Floyd preceded her in death on January 2, 1998. Henri worked for many years for the Coleman County Tax Appraisal District. She lived in Santa Anna until moving to Redstone Assisted Living Center several years ago. She was a member of the Church of Christ.
Henri enjoyed Facebook and playing Candy Crush. She was also an avid fan of the Texas Rangers and enjoyed watching them play on television. Her family had arranged for her to attend her very first Rangers game on Saturday, September 22, where she would have been recognized as Fox Sports Fan of the Week. She loved and enjoyed her family and will be greatly missed by them.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Tanna Gilbreath of Santa Anna; one daughter and son-in-law, Glenda and Danny Cook of Brownwood; nine grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren, with another one due in November; one brother, Jack Spencer and wife Doylie of Yazoo City, Mississippi.
She was preceded in death by her husband, three brothers, one sister, and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 22, from 5:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home, 400 W. Pecan Street, Coleman, Texas 76834.
