Herb Hunt, 85, of Lake Coleman, died Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at Abilene Regional Medical Center. Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 8, 2014 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel, 400 West Pecan Street, Coleman, with Rev. John Stanislaw officiating. Burial will follow in the Coleman City Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
He was born Herbert Leon Hunt on November 24, 1928 in Duncan, Oklahoma, one of nine children born to Bee Hunt and Rose Elizabeth Burton Hunt. Herb grew up in Duncan and attended school there. He married Frankie Nell Shahan on September 30, 1947 in Duncan.
Herb worked in the oil field as yard foreman and later, as an assistant manager for Tesoro Petroleum. He retired in 1987 and moved to Lake Coleman, where he enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was past president of the Moose Lodge in Odessa during the 1980's, member of the Lake Coleman Volunteer Fire Department and a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Duncan.
Survivors include four children, Larry Hunt of Lake Coleman, Carolyn Pruett and husband, Russell, of Melbourne Beach, Florida, Lyndell Hunt of Lake Coleman, Darrell Hunt and wife, Winter, of Odessa; nine grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Frankie Hunt on November 3, 2011 and eight brothers and sisters, Ed, Fred, Joe, Bill, Nettie, Eunice, Ossie and Myrt.
Family visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Friday, February 8, 2014 at the funeral home.
