He was born Herbie Conrad Strength on May 6, 1951, in Coleman to William James Strength and Louise Slayton Strength. He grew up in Cross Plains and Coleman. Herbie then served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. After receiving an honorable discharge from the Navy, Herbie went to work in the oil fields. Herbie worked in the oil fields for over 30 years, retiring in 2011. After retirement, Herbie enjoyed fishing, tending to his plants and chickens, and was the gate keeper at the Coleman City Cemetery. His most cherished moments were spending time with his children and grandchildren. He absolutely loved to have children in his presence. We will miss Herbie, but if he were here, he would say “Come back when you have more time or more money!”

Herbie is survived by three children, Charity Diane Fletcher of Brownwood, Farrahh Louelle Chapman and husband David of Mico, and Stony Wade Strength and wife Kimberly of Coleman; his grandchildren, Daniel Haynes, Caitlyn Mair and husband Blaik, Trinity Fletcher, Brendan Rodriguez, Ryan Rodriguez, Rowdy Farris, Courtney Strength, Harlee Strength, Brayden Watts, Hailey Watts, and Paisley Watts; ten great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ginger Walker and husband David of Brownwood and Betty Beal of Coleman; and two brothers, Delbert Strength of Talpa and Nathan Strength of Coleman.
