Herman Benton Cassaday, 81, of Talpa, died December 8, 2018 at his residence. There will be a visitation from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at Stevens Funeral Home, 400 West Pecan Street, Coleman. Graveside service will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 13, 2018 at the Talpa Cemetery with Rev. Loyd Hopper officiating. Burial will follow in the Talpa Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
Herman Benton Cassaday was born January 23, 1937 in Llano to Herman F. Cassaday and Jewel May Matthews Cassaday. He grew up in Llano and graduated from Llano High School. He then attended Texas Tech University in Lubbock, earning a Bachelors degree in Agriculture. In May of 1958, he married Patsy “Pat” Stokes in Lubbock. Mr. Cassaday worked for the Texas Animal Health Commission as a cattle inspector. He was also a rancher, raising sheep, cattle and pigs.
Following retirement, Mr. Cassaday started his own company, House of Rawhide. He made custom bullwhips. He and Pat travelled around the state to different shows and exhibitions, selling his creations. Mr. Cassaday was involved with community projects and activities and was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Talpa.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Felicia and Wayne LaCosse of Omaha, Nebraska; one son and daughter-in-law, Zane and Bonnie Cassaday of Talpa; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Pat, on November 17, 2014; a sister, Frances Henderson and a daughter, Angie Cassaday.
The family would like to thank Kindred Hospice and all of those that helped take care of Mr. Cassaday over the last several weeks and months.
