H.N. (Sonny) Wells, Jr.

H. N. “Sonny” Wells, Jr., 89, of Coleman, died Thursday, April 15, 2021 at Holiday Hill Nursing Home in Coleman.  The family will host a visitation on Monday, April 19, 2021 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home, 400 West Pecan Street, Coleman.  Funeral service with Military Honors will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 20, 2021 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Mike Beets officiating.  Burial will be in the Glen Cove Cemetery.  Services are entrusted to Stevens Funeral Home.

Henry Nolan Wells, Jr. was born January 4, 1932 in Santa Anna to H.N. Wells, Sr. and Udora Reynolds Wells.  He grew up in Grosvenor, where he attended school.  He also attended school at Bangs before enlisting in the United States Army.  Sonny served his country during the Korean War with the 8232nd Army Unit in Tokyo.  On February 10, 1989, Sonny married Myrtle Marie “Myrt” Kemp in Granbury.

Sonny worked as a heavy equipment operator for the Santa Fe Railroad, retiring in 1993.  Following his retirement, Sonny and Myrt moved to Coleman.  Sonny loved singing and playing his guitar, was an avid hunter and a gifted mechanic.  He enjoyed restoring old cars.

Sonny is survived by his wife, Myrt Wells of Coleman; three children, Jeannine Isom and husband, Jim, of Ruidoso, New Mexico, Kay Giles of Brownwood, Phillip Wells of Houston and one sister, Dorrita Hottel and husband, Nelson, of Burleson.  Also surviving are five grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Sonny is preceded in death by his parents and five brothers and sisters, Geneva, Floyd, Marion, Rowena and Marvin.
