Hortense Oliver

Hortense Oliver, 77, of Bangs, died Sunday, November 30, 2014 at Bangs Nursing Home. Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel, 400 West Pecan Street, Coleman. Burial will follow in the Coleman City Cemetery, under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

She was born Hortense Gutierrez on September 16, 1937 in Waelder, Texas to Sontos Gutierrez and Elvira Gallegos Gutierrez. She grew up and attended school in Houston. On August 29, 1964, she married Jesse Oliver in Houston. He preceded her in death in June 1972. She later moved to Bangs and was a member of the New Testament Holiness Church in Bangs.

Survivors include five children, Joann Castillo and husband, Eusebio, of Bangs, David Oliver and wife, Lola, Lilly Diaz and husband, Willie, of Bangs, Elvira Balladerez and husband, Robert, of Coleman, Jessie Saverance and husband, Clyde, of Coleman; five brothers and sisters, Sontos Gutierrez of Houston, Connie Garza and husband, Ruben of Houston, Lillie DeLeon of Houston, Belia Gonzales of Houston, Ruben Gutierrez of Houston; 15 grandchildren, three great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, her parents, a brother, Robert Gutierrez and a sister, Virginia Gutierrez, also preceded her in death.

Family visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at Stevens Funeral Home.
