Iva Mae "Blackie" Stevens

October 25, 1927 — January 18, 2018

Iva Mae “Blackie” Stevens, 90, of Coleman, died Thursday, January 18, 2018 at Holiday Hill Nursing Home. Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 21, 2018 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel, 400 West Pecan Street, Coleman, with Rev. Jeff Dean officiating. Burial will be in the Coleman City Cemetery.

She was born Iva Mae Taylor on October 25, 1927 in Coleman to Jerry Taylor and Alice Davis Taylor. She grew up in Coleman and graduated from Coleman High School. She later attended school, earning her LVN license. She married W.A. “Steve” Stevens on June 12, 1946 in Coleman. Blackie worked at Overall-Morris Memorial Hospital for several years then worked at Holiday Hill Nursing Home until her retirement. She was active in the Ladies Hospital Auxiliary, loved to garden and tend to her roses and was an active member of Community Baptist Church.

Survivors include one son, Gary Stevens and wife, Doris, of Clyde; two grandchildren, Christie Smith and husband, Josh, of Bryan, Justin Stevens and wife, Laura, of Coleman; four great grandchildren, Riley James of New Orleans, Louisiana, Dalton James of Bryan, Hailey James of Bryan, Chase Stevens of Coleman; daughter-in-law, Brenda Stevens of Coleman and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Steve Stevens; one son, Ronnie Stevens; one daughter, Charlotte Phillips; six sisters, Grace Irene Elkin, Mary Alice Huntly, Doris Helen Lobstein, Gertude Hazel Day, Patricia Sue Walls, her twin sister, Iva Fay Kittel; three brothers, Thomas James Taylor, Denver Clayton Taylor and Robert Burns Taylor.

A visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

The family has requested that memorial donations in memory of Blackie be made the Alzheimer’s Association.
