J. W. Dansby

J. W. Dansby, age 87, of Burkett, died Thursday, January 4, 2018, at his residence. A service will be held at the graveside in Burkett Cemetery at 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 8. Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

J. W. Dansby was born December 19, 1930 in Neshoba County, Mississippi, a son of John Woodard Dansby and Velma Olivia Guess Dansby. He moved with his family to Texas and grew up in Peacock. He later lived in New Mexico, Fort Worth, Texas and Page, Texas. He served in the United States Army from 1954-1956 and received an Honorable Discharge. During most of his life he was a carpenter and a mechanic and liked rebuilding old cars. He moved to Burkett, Coleman County, about 15 years ago. He enjoyed reading about various things.

He is survived by two children, Mike Dansby of Marathon, Florida and Belinda Dansby of Cocoa, Florida; one sister, Barbara Dansby of Texas; nine grandchildren, Seleena, Alisha, Tara, Jeremiah, Natasha, Cheyenne, Chance, Wesley and Sherry; 19 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his siblings, Aaron, Edna May, Evelyn, David, Karen and Vivian, and by a son, Steve Dansby.
