Jack Wayne Cockrell

Jack Wayne Cockrell, also known as “Papa Jack,” a dedicated iron worker who served for over twenty-two years, has sadly passed away at the age of 91. Jack was born on September 16, 1932, in Seguin, Texas, and he peacefully departed on July 14, 2024, at Coleman County Medical Center in Coleman.

A proud veteran, Jack honorably served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. His love and dedication to his country was evident throughout his life. Jack's passion for his work as an ironworker was unmatched, and he leaves behind a legacy of hard work and dedication.

In his personal life, Jack found love and companionship with two remarkable women. He married Anne Langston on September 19, 1991, in Brady, Texas. After Anne's passing in 2006, Jack later found happiness again when he married Wanda Ragsdale on August 16, 2007. Their bond was a source of strength for Jack until the end.

Jack's family meant everything to him. He is survived by his beloved wife, Wanda Cockrell of Coleman; his children Lynn Thompson and husband Richard of Coleman, Sam Beauchamp and wife Sheree of Radersburg, Montana; daughter-in-law Chris Beauchamp of Pueblo West, Colorado; five grandchildren, Truitt Thompson and wife, D'Jean of Breckenridge, Shirley Zamora and husband, Jason, of Houston, Shannon Daves and husband Kenneth of League City, Texas; James Douglas of Radersburg, Montana; Keifor Beauchamp and wife Terra of Valor, Colorado; along with twelve great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

In addition to his immediate family, Jack is also survived by two sisters, Sue Oliver and husband Wayne of Seguin; Bonnie Pesson of Seguin; and one brother Robert Cockrell and wife Mickey of Seguin. Together with his surviving family members and friends from near and far, they will cherish the memories they shared with Jack.

Throughout his life outside of work and family obligations, Jack found joy in activities like fishing and hunting. His varied interests were reflected in his vibrant personality and zest for life.

The family will host a visitation from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 pm. Tuesday, July 16, 2024, at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel. Family and friends are invited to a funeral service with military honors at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Marcy Grun, minister at Bluff Creek Cowboy Church, officiating and Rev. Jeff Dean, minister at North Coleman Baptist Church, assisting. Interment will follow in the Brown Ranch Cemetery. Services are entrusted to Stevens Funeral Home, 400 W. Pecan Street, in Coleman.

Pallbearers will be Dick Thompson, Truitt Thompson, Trace Thompson, Jeffery Henderson, Darrell Fletcher, Wally Dobbins, and Justin Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be the members and friends from the Unity Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church. 

The family requests with gratitude that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made in memory of Jack to the Coleman County Senior Center Meals on Wheels, 916 S. Concho Street, Coleman, Texas 76834 or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
