James Wesley Stokes

James Wesley Stokes, 74, of Talpa, died Thursday, October 16, 2014 at Hendrick Medical Center. Graveside funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 19, 2014 at the Talpa Cemetery, with Rev. Zack Ailshie officiating. Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Mr. Stokes was born October 20, 1939 in Talpa to Horace Wesley Stokes and Maggie Ruth Brevard Stokes. He grew up and attended school in Talpa and Ballinger. He played football for Ballinger High School. He was recruited by Rice University to play football and received a full scholarship. He worked as a salesman, selling oil field equipment.

Survivors include four children, Greg Stokes, Brian Stokes, Kevin Stokes, Susan Muela; one sister, Karen Cate; nine grandchildren and one great grandchild.

His parents preceded him in death.
