Janice Elizabeth (Brinkley) Anderson, beloved mother and grandmother, 84, of Kerrville, Texas, passed away in the presence of her children in Round Rock, Texas on September 4, 2024. Janice was a Christian and a believer in our Lord and Savior, and she was comfortable in the knowledge she would be with him soon. She was born in Cleburne, Texas on March 3, 1940 to Charles and Sarah (Byers) Brinkley. The oldest child of a Presbyterian minister and a schoolteacher, Janice grew up in several small towns in West Texas before settling in Kermit, Texas. Upon graduating from Kermit High School in 1958, Janice attended Texas Christian University on a scholarship given to the children of ministers. She studied English and Theater Arts and played “Jonah’s childhood love” in TCU’s Little Theater production of Jezebel’s Husband (spring 1961). She never stopped speaking affectionately of her time as a TCU student and was extremely proud that her grandson, Alan, is a current student. After earning her BA in English from TCU in 1962, she continued her education at the University of Texas at Austin and then earned a Master of Education in Guidance and Counseling from Pan American University (Edinburg, TX) in 1972. Janice started her career in Abilene and Harlingen and worked with children as a speech therapist in Texas public schools for her entire professional career.
Janice met her husband Paul in Raymondville, Texas, where they married in May 1966 at a wedding officiated by her father Charles Brinkley. Janice and Paul were married for almost 45 years (separated by his passing in 2011), raised three children together, and spent their lives working in public education in several small Texas towns before retiring to Kerrville in 1996. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and strived to provide the best for her family. She was shy and introverted, often choosing to read in her room in the presence of her husband and beloved pets, but she kept a small circle of close friends for whom she cared deeply. She loved horses and enjoyed singing in the church choir and spending much of her free time with her children and grandchildren. In her retirement, she continued to work with children for many years as a Hill Country Court Appointed Special Advocate.
Janice was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Paul, her brother Richard Brinkley, and her sister Catherine Petru. She is survived by her daughter, Ingrid (and husband Ron) Bullock of Hutto, her son Alan (and wife Kristin) Anderson of The Dalles, Oregon, her son Christopher (and wife Lisa) Anderson of Austin, and seven grandchildren: Christian, Mariah, and Lily Bullock and Zachary, Alan, Nathan, and Sean Anderson. She will be laid to rest in Coleman, Texas in the family plot with her parents, grandparents, brother, and husband.
We invite you to share fond memories and words of comfort and condolence with the Anderson family by signing the guestbook on Janice’s tribute page at www.stevensfuneralhome.com. Stevens Funeral Home is honored to serve the Anderson family.
