Winters

Jerry Lee Alvarado, age 63, of Winters, died Saturday, November 20, 2021.  A Memorial Service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, November 27, 2021, in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel, 400 W. Pecan Street, Coleman.

Jerry Lee Alvarado was born in Santa Anna, Texas, on November 21, 1957.  His parents were Frances Salas Alvarado and Eduardo Alvarado.  In 1960, he moved with his family to Las Cruces, NM, where he grew up and graduated  from Cobra High School.    While attending high school, he was a two time state wrestling champion.  Immediately following graduation, he enlisted in the U. S. Army and was stationed in Germany.  He was married to Anita Coppage and they had one son, Jerry Lee Alvarado, Jr.  He  then married Elsa Vicencio and they had three children, Jeremy, Erika and Eileen.  They moved to San Marcos where he worked at Tangram for several years and at Browns School before moving to Winters.  Jerry worked at various jobs including construction with his uncles and cousins.  He later married Laura Bogolin and she preceded him in death.

Jerry was considered a laid back kind of guy who loved to play dominoes, chess, horse shoes and any type of competitive game.  He played baseball and softball and enjoyed watching all sports, including the Dallas Cowboys.  While his children were growing up, he was always involved with all their activities.  He was proud of his grandchildren and loved to wrestle with them. He was a much loved father, grandfather, uncle and brother and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frances and Eduardo Alvarado; two sisters, Angela Alvarado and Norma Kay DeLuna.

He is survived by his children, Jerry Lee Alvarado, Jr. of New Mexico, Jeremy Alvarado and wife Alexa of Winters, Erika Woods of Winters and Eileen Alvarado of San Marcos; seven grandchildren, Justine Alvarado, Timothy Lowery, Domynic Alvarado, Malichi Alvarado, Luzion Woods, Nehemiah Alvarado and Levi Alvarado; one brother, Edward Alvarado of New Mexico; many nieces and nephews.
