Jim Reid, 77, of Coleman, died Thursday, May 14, 2015 at Abilene Regional Medical Center. Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 17, 2015 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel, 400 West Pecan Street, Coleman, with Rev. Joe Haynes officiating. A committal service will be 5:30 p.m. Sunday, May 15, 2015 at Sanco Cemetery in Coke County. Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
Jim Reid was born April 4, 1938 in San Angelo to Jim Lohn Reid, Jr. and Bertha Cleo Allred Reid. He grew up in Robert Lee and Grand Prairie. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1955 to 1957. On his birthday in 1956, he married Betty Ophenia Palmer in Grand Prairie. He worked as an electronics engineer for General Electric in Dallas and worked for the University of Houston-Clear Lake in the maintenance department, where he trained employees in HVAC maintenance. He was also a retired Baptist minister.
Jim moved to Coleman in 2007. He decided to open a computer repair service, and with the help of his wife, Fina, they owned and operated Coleman Gift & Craft Supply and Computer Service. Jim was the best father and loved his family.
Survivors include his wife, Fina Reid of Coleman; five sons, Bobby Reid of Arlington, Billy Reid of Arlington, Jim Lohn Reid, IV, of Coleman, Larry Reid of Arlington, Terry Reid of Grand Prairie; four brothers and sisters, Wilber Reid of Dallas, Loyal Ray Reid of Grand Prairie, Berth-el Young of Houston, Eldred Reid of Galveston; several cousins, including Annie Fuqua and Howard Allred, both of Fort Worth that were raised as siblings; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a cousin, Samuel Arthur Allred that was raised as a brother.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
Visitation with the family will be from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 17, 2015 at the funeral home.
