Jimmie Louis "Jinks" Jamison

Jimmie Louis “Jinks” Jamison, 86, of Voss, died Wednesday, July 10, 2019 at Coleman County Medical Center.  Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, July 12, 2019 at Stevens Funeral Home, 400 West Pecan Street, Coleman.  Funeral service with Military Honors will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 13, 2019 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Joe Haynes officiating.  Burial will be in the Hill Cemetery in southern Coleman County.  Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Jimmie Louis “Jinks” Jamison was born December 25, 1932 at the family home place in Coleman County to Manton Lindsay Jamison and Julia Ann Skelton Jamison.  He grew up in Leaday on the family farm and attended school at Hill and Voss.  Jinks graduated from Mozelle High School in 1951.  Having lived before the days of modern machinery, one of Jinks’ farm duties was helping pick cotton by hand and use teams of draft horses to plow.  Jinks enlisted in the United States Army in 1954 and went through basic training at Fort Bliss.  One of his highlights during his enlistment was driving military trucks on the Autobahn in Germany.

After being honorably discharged from the Army, Jinks came back to Coleman County and settled on the family land.  He was a farmer and rancher, raising cattle and Rambouillet sheep.  He was a former member of the Mozelle School Board, member of the Farm Bureau, lifetime member and honorary director of the Texas Sheep and Goat Raiser’s Association and a member of the Coleman Rodeo Association.  Jinks was also a member of Leaday Baptist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Jennifer Short and husband, Michael, of Voss, Suzanne Ryan and husband, Rusty, of Talpa; one brother, Johnny Jamison and wife, Norrene, of Voss; one sister, Betty Scarborough and husband, Glen, of Shields; four grandchildren, James Short of Voss, Sarita Short of Voss, Ashley Knowles of Mexia and Seth Ryan of San Angelo.  Also surviving are three great grandchildren, Addi Knowles, of Mexia, Cooper Ryan of San Angelo, Clay Ryan of San Angelo; two sisters-in-law, Virginia Jamison of Voss, Bettye Jamison of Red Bank and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Jinks was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Buck Jamison, Dick Jamison, Oscar Jamison; two sisters, Martha Hafner and Billie Ruth McCorkle.
