Joe Keith Cavanaugh

Joe “Keith” Cavanaugh, age 56, of Coleman, died Monday, March 10, 2014 at his home. Funeral service will be held 2:00p.m. Sunday, March 16th, at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation with the family will be from 6:00 p.m. till 8:00 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home, Saturday March 15th.

Keith, the son of Jackie and Nancy Cavanaugh, was born and raised in Coleman, TX. He graduated from Coleman High School in 1976 and from Texas State Technical Institute in 1990 with an associate’s degree in electronics. During younger years, Keith was involved in all the youth activities at First Baptist Church, the Big Blue Band, football, and the Singing Blues. On September 1, 1985, he married Nora Jo Thomas in Coleman. Keith worked as a jack of many trades throughout his life including diesel and auto mechanic, lawn and garden repairman, oil field worker, appliance repairman, DirectTV installer, and spent much of his time as a heating and air conditioning technician. His constant thirst for knowledge kept him tinkering with anything he could get his hands on. He was always willing to help anyone in need and loved being around children and family. His laid-back demeanor and quirky humor will always be remembered by those who knew him. He was a member of Harmony Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Nora “ Jo” Cavanaugh of Coleman, a son, William Keith (Billy) Cavanaugh of Coleman and a daughter, Jennifer Jan and son-in-law, Jayton VanPelt of San Angelo; parents, Jackie and Nancy Cavanaugh of Coleman; parents-in-law, Bill and Barbara Thomas of Mankato, KS; brothers, Kevin Cavanaugh of Mozelle, Kirk Cavanaugh and wife Lisa of Fisk; a sister, Kayla Wallace and fiancé, Raymond Moreno of Round Rock; sister-in-laws, Debbie and husband Kevin Allton of Smolan, KS, Lisa and husband Marty Sorenson of Vermillion, SD; brother-in-law, Rex Thomas and wife Kathy; nieces and nephews, Cody Cavanaugh and wife Kristian, Crystal Stanford, Chelsea Cavanaugh, Darous Allton, Wade Allton, Travis Thomas, and Katlin Allton; great nieces and nephews, Kimberly, Hagen, Michael, Brayden, Louden, McKenzie; aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Kimberly Jan Cavanaugh and his grandparents, Lena “Big Mama” and Reuben “Big Daddy” Adian, and Martha and E. S. Cavanaugh.
