John Henry Ellis, Jr., 94, of Bossier City, Louisiana, died Monday, July 28, 2014 at the Northwest Louisiana War Veterans Home in Bossier City. Graveside funeral service with Military Honors will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 2, 2014 at the Brown Ranch Cemetery Pavilion with Bob Martin officiating. Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
Mr. Ellis was born June 6, 1920 in Rockwood to John Henry Ellis, Sr. and Maddie Knight Ellis. On October 1, 1938, he married Susie Mae Lawrence in Comanche. During their marriage, they lived in Texas, California, and Arkansas and had moved to Kansas to be with their daughter. After the death of his wife in 2007, Mr. Ellis moved again with his daughter to Louisiana.
Mr. Ellis served in the United States Navy from 1942 to 1945. He was an automotive mechanic and a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include one daughter, Reba Glidewell of Shreveport, Louisiana; one sister, Irene Ashcraft of Gainesville; five grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Susie Ellis on September 1, 2007; a son, David Ellis in 2009; a brother, Plas James "Shorty" Ellis and a sister, Catherine Ellis.
Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 2, 2014 at Stevens Funeral Home, 400 West Pecan Street, Coleman.
